Aloha Family and Friends!
What an incredible week this has been! On Tuesday Ms. Josie did another art lesson with the class as a follow up to the one from last week. She read them the story of "Harold and the Purple Crayon". As she read they discussed the different kinds of lines they could see in the story. Then it was time for the kids to create their own work. Here are some of the pictures they drew using their own purple crayon!
This week we have been learning all about the /m/ sound we say for the letter M. As a class we explored the classroom looking for the letter M all around us. We recorded what we found in our notebooks. The kids loved it! We are going to do the same activity next week as we learn about the letter A.
We have begun playing a new phonics game in class that you can also play at home with your child. I say the sounds of a word, and the kids need to figure out what word I am trying to say. For example, if I say /m/ /a/ /t/ the kids would need to say mat. It is a simple game that you can play any time and anywhere! It also helps prepare your child for being able to blend sounds when they read!
Friday our class got to visit the library, and we practiced how to take books off of the shelf and put them back on. Everyone got a "shelf marker". The shelf marker holds the place on the shelf while the book is being looked at. This way we can he make sure books go back exactly where they belong on the shelf. The class did an amazing job using their shelf markers for the first time.
And they got to look at some great books too!
When we left the library the kids received a special surprise! As a thank you for the get well cards we made for our librarian Mrs. Chock, she gave each kid a little gift. The kids were so excited!
On Thursday we completed our Mr. Potato Head! Whenever the whole class is on task or making good decisions we add a piece. Once all the pieces are there we get to have a class party.
We celebrated our achievement on Friday with a popsicle party! It was a great way to end our week!
Next week we are learning all about Aa and the sound we say for A. Your child is welcome to bring in an item from home that begins with the letter A to share with the class. All items will be returned on Thursday.
Have a great three day weekend!
Mrs. Kawai
