Excited for First Grade

Aloha family and friends!
This week the kids wrote all about why they are excited for first grade. Here is what some of them said...

"I am excited for first grade because I am happy because I like to see my friends."

On Tuesday Ms. Josie did a social studies with the kids on Needs Vs. Wants

Starting next week our homework format will change. Each student will be giving a list of tasks to accomplish over the course of the last month of school.  They don't need to be done in order. Please initial each box after your child has completed them.

Also, the finalists for the art tshirt att contest have been chosen, and one of the 2 finalists is from D2! Friends and family can vote for whose artwork gets to be made into our school tshirt by voting Kona Coffee and Tea!

Day and Night

Aloha family and friends!
We have been learning all about what we can see up in the sky. The kids did an art project where they drew a sun and a moon. The daylight side they colored it in using warm colors, like red, orange, yellow. The nighttime side they colored with cool colors, like green, blue, purple.

Once it was all colored they each wrote down things that they can see in the sky in the day and at night.

Our school is having an art contest to choose one picture per grade level to create a school tshirt. Everyone in our class drew a picture to represent Kindergarten. Here are the 3 finalists for our classroom. Best of luck!

Friday was Earth Day! Ms. Josie did some fun Earth Day activities with the kids. They did a great job on their work

Thank you to all the families who contributed snacks to our classroom this month. The kids really appreciate it!

Lots of shapes!

Aloha Family and Friends!
This week the kids had lots of opportunities to express their learning in creative way.  In math we modeled 2D and 3D shapes with clay.

The kids also created 2D shapes using rubber bands and geoboards.

This week we started learning about positional words. We learned the words "above" and "below". To help us understand these words we modeled above and below using puppets. Next we modeled above and below using animal figures. The kids had a great time!

Next week our 3rd grade buddies are having their first week of SBAC testing. Last week we wrote them letters, and this week we turned them in to cards. Kids glued their letters to construction paper and then decorated it.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Healthy Teeth

We had a great time of learning this week! On Monday we learned all about the importance of brushing and flossing our teeth. We practiced brushing and flossing with egg cartons. The kids did a great job trying to get their "teeth" clean and shiney!

Our homework this week was to keep a log of brushing and flossing g our teeth. Ms. Josie and I did it too! Student logs are due this Monday.

On Wednesday we read the story of "The Tortoise and the Hare". After hearing the story the kids had to paint an illustration to show the characters, the setting, and a major event.

On Friday we introduced a new center to our fun Friday! The kids got to learn and practice how to do programming. Kids used coding to move characters where they wanted them to go. They had a great time and were really good at it! Here is a website to practice coding if kids want to learn more about being a programmer at home (it's fun for parents too 😉):

One Friday we started making letters for our third grade buddies who are taking the SBAC in a couple weeks! We want to make sure their buckets are filled and fully encouraged before taking the test.

Student logs for brushing and flossing teeth is due Monday. ( Don't worry if they missed any. They just need to try their best!)

Report cards will go home on Thursday.

Have a great weekend!
