D2 in 3D

Aloha Family and Friends!
This week we have begun to learn all about 3D shapes! It has been so much fun! To begin our unit we learned how to draw some 3D shapes. We learned that 3D shapes are all around us and if we know how to draw them then we can draw anything! Here are some of the 3D objects that we drew:

We also learned that 3D shapes can do different things. Some of them can roll, some can slide, some can stack.

The first 3D shape we learned about is a sphere. It is tricky to say, but we are getting it!

On Friday Ms. Josie did a social studies lesson with the kids about China. We learned about their flag and Chinese New Year. We learned that pandas live in China. We also learned what it is like to go to school in China.

This Tuesday (April 5th) is our final ABC Read To Me for the year. It should be a fun time!

Have a great weekend!

Take Over Take Two

Aloha family and friends of D2!
This week Ms. Josie did her second take over week as a part of her student teaching. She was the lead teacher for the whole week and she did a fabulous job!

On Monday Ms. Josie had the kids try some opinion writing. This week we have been learning all about transportation. For their writing, they had to write about whether they would want to ride in a helicopter or on a train to school.

This week Ms. Josie introduced a new activity during our reading stations. She had two containers filled with eggs.

Inside each egg is either a picture that they need to sound out the sounds for...

Or pieces to a word that they had to put together and then read.

On Friday Ms. Josie did a health lesson with the kids about ukus. They talked about ways we get ukus and also read a book called "Bugs In My Head." Afterwards the kids colored a picture of a mischievous uku!

Tuesday is Field Day. Kids need to wear comfy clothes and tennis shoes. Everyone should also bring a water bottle.

April will be state testing for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. We are buddied up with a 3rd grade class to make them signs and notes of encouragement. We are also collecting healthy snack donations to give them to help them be fueled to take this big test! Snack donations can be brought to our classroom.

Spring break begins Wednesday, March 16th, so there will be no homework next week.

Have a great weekend!

Let's Go To Japan!

Aloha family and friends!
What a fun filled and eventful week this has been!
Wednesday was Dr. Seuss Day! We did lots of Dr. Seuss related activities. We played a game where we rolled the dice and had to color in hats like from the Cat in the Hat. Whoever was able to color in all of theirs first won!

We also made out very own hats like the Cat in the Hat!

Thursday was Girls' Day! To celebrate the girls got to have lunch in the classroom. All the kids, boys and girls, made fans using water colors.

In Social Studies we are beginning to study the continent of Asia. This week we studied the country of Japan. We learned about their flag. We learned that Girls' Day comes from Japan. And we learned about what a Japanese child's bedroom is like.

Have a great weekend!
